Hi Guys,

I've had my Vaio VGN-C1S for 6 years now and I want to upgrade the hard drive, which is a Hitachi HTS541010G9SA00 2.5", 100gB, ATA, 5400 rpm.

I would like a SATA, 500gB, 7200 rpm new drive to replace it but would the 7200 rpm new drive work ok in my laptop and would I notice any difference in performance?

WM.

    Hi WM and welcome.

Your existing Hitachi Travelstar 5K100 is a SATA drive so any SATA 2.5" drive will fit OK in your VGN-C1S.

A 7200 RPM drive should be a little quicker but may be a little noisier and use a little more battery.

I've just updated mine to a Seagate Momentus SATA 750GB, 7200 rpm. I didn't notice any extra noise, but I did notice a performance boost. Can't comment on battery life, as mine died and Sony don't sell replacements for "old" Vaio's (rant over)

Hi. Technically, yes, since it would be faster. But to a human eye, it won't be much of a difference.

By the way, make sure to back up all the files and just a heads upm in upgrading HDD, you will need to reinstall all your current sofateares including your OS.

    Good luck. http://imagicon.info/cat/12-13/vbulletin-smile.gif
