Hi and welcome to the community.

The NEX range itself do have a USB mode but only to access data.

With this in mind, it is not going to be possible to use that as a way of streaming a live video feed for things like use as a webcam.

There might be updates in the future but I do not see this coming in as a feature as it could require pretty complex programming.

I would have a look at the link below for information on compatible memory cards. There may be third party ones which may work but no gaurantee on this

That is actually a really neat idea. Rather than large camera in everyones way, that makes way more sense. I like the lighting and how its been captured so will be sharing that :). Was any of that changed when it came to editing?

The only thing I can think of like you have mentioned is a mains adaptor however I cannot see how it will work. Some of the other sony products do have a dummy battery with a mains cable attached but usually there is a little notch in the casing to allow the cable to come through. Since the back end of the action cam is closed in order to access or operate the features, might not be something that is possible with this model. Maybe future versions but it is a good ppoint.

I have tried using a USB mains adaptor but since they are generally specific to a phone or device, not really had much luck with it nor is it worth pushing with testing with higher voltages since it could lead to damage.

The way these things have been designed is ideally to be used within the housing where in which it can be used underwater etc so the idea of having a cable attached at the same time is more left to the larger cameras.

I would just grab a few extra batteries since they are not that expensive but if doing something like a time lapse, I guess need to be quick and careful as to not interrupt the scene.

Does not sound good I am afraid, if older footage is fine but new recordings are fuzzy and have a colour cast then it does seem it will need to be looked at by the Sony Service Centre. Not sure what could be wrong here but I am unable to see anything in the settings to help fix this.

Not many of those about in the UK let alone anywhere else so bit of a gem.

If you could let us know what the model number is, there may be an installation diagram on the support side which we can look at but not sure how the wiring would tie up with a car since I know over the years, wiring looms changed to add/remove wires especially for audio.

Hi and welcome to the community.I woudl say this sounds like something a little more advance that what you will find in the installation guide or for a more complex car install.

To try and help, would be great to get some more info on what you are looking to do or if you have the model number.

You might need the help of a professional car installer since the majority of the cables and connectors supplied with the unit are designed to be wired in to your main console but running of your primary battery etc. Trying to set it up to run through an aux battery may require you to fabricate cables and ensure that your aux battery does not go flat is another consideration.

1. If the stereo is not turning on/off when the car does, then there may be a problem with the way it has been installed. In most cases, it should power up with you key in the ignition on the first click and then also when you fully start the car, same when turning the car off so in that sense, could be something wrong with the way it has been fitted. My best recommendation is with the box etc when you bought it, you should have an installation diagram like this pdf.crse.com/manuals/4295766111.pdf Might be worthwhile letting the installer look it over.

2. If you find your phone is going straight to voicemail, try having a look on your call divert settings on your phone or if you can, try a different phone. Not sure what could be the problem here.

3. If the caller complaints of hearing themselves, try turning your volume down a little or press and hold the MIC button. Try EC/NC1 and EC/NC2 ideally whilst park since you may need to look at the screen. Not worth crashing over a few minutes to pay attention. This feature should help a little.

4. If you radio is crackling/hissing, is this all stations or some vs others? It could be a loose wire causing problems with the ariel connectionor just a low quality signal. Once again, if Halfords are to take another look, it may sort itself out. Really hard to say what it could be without hearing it.

Either way, hope some of the info has helped out here but let us know how you get on.

Hi Charlie.Baldwin and welcome to the community.

Bit of a tricky one to answer but it seems to be that your wiring is slightly different to what the stereo is setup for which could possibly be down to the wiring in the car may have been altered. Either by the factory or by a previous owner if purchased second hand.

I would say go by trial and error but you do not want to risk shorting something out on the head unit or on the car itself, I have been there and it is not fun.

The headunit like most has a tiny power reserve which is why it retains info for short periods of time and then after that, reverts back to factory defaults or something causing the stereo to trip electronically when you open a door. The best recommendation I could give is have it checked by a car audio specialist. It could be the wiring or the head uint but really hard to say since each car and its wiring is a little different.

Not the clearest of answers to help fix the problem but maybe someone who can have a look over it all might be the best way.

Hope all is well. What I would try is filming in a lower res to see if the same occurs more for testing purposes that a permanent fix. It could be down to performance of the computer since once uploaded to YouTube, it is usually optimised as it is rendered differently.

What I find when editing video especially through specific programs, I do suffer unusual video behaviour at higher resolutions but fine on anything on a lower framerate/resolution.

All depends on what the program is capable of supporting. Windows Movie Maker is quite basic in its file format and codec support so you best bet would be to go straight into Adobe Premier.

Is there any reason why you want to import to Movie Maker and then Premier?

Wow, credit to you dog since the screen on the Tablet S is actually quite strong. As for obtaining parts, you may find something online but as for an official way of doing things, visit the link below as it may need to be sent away for repair. Costwise, I am not sure how it would work since the screen may be the entire front part.

From having some hands on with a pre production model, I was unable to really see any dedicated connectors compared to the Microsoft Surface but that being said, more info and additional extras may change. From looking, there will be cases and a cradle.

I have to say, I have the Sony Tablet S however I have a strong feeling I will be making the switch to one of these as soon as I can but more likely go down the route of a slip on cover.

Not ideal I know but hopefully more info as it develops. Some photos of it are below. Regards, Teshi

If you find that the end video footage once transferred is fine but the screen is "fuzzy" there could be one of two things, the screen itself is not exactly high resolution like you get with most phones etc since it is there to only display what you plan to record but it should be clear enough to make out everything.

The most likely reason is going to be that there is some sort of problem especially if the entire screen has a red hue over it. I would say something like that would be need to be looked at by the service centre.

I did have some issues with the whole wifi on iOS. I just had to disable wifi and got it going again. Does it throw up any errors?

Have you tried using the wifi for live view or only to send photos over?

Hi and welcome! Firstly I would have to congratulate you on the move from Windows 98 to a newer operating system. I have long forgotten the last time I used Win 98.

As for connecting you camera, it will be perfectly fine. Just to safely disconnect your NEX after using it with your Mac. What you will find is the software might vary slightly. If you shoot in RAW, I do enjoy using Lightroom or you have the choice of using Aperture.

To be honest, a lot of the information is quite right. The problem with the northern lights is that depending on where you are, they are not bright enough to capture on most devices without having to use higher sensitivites, slower shutter speeds or fast lenses. The majority of photos I have seen as stills taken from a DSLR or a compact camera with a manual mode.

To the eye, the lights may look bright or visible enough to see but digital products do not see in the same way. If you are going soon, you might be in with a chance but the footage might be quite dark or grainy due to the Handycam having to increase the sensitivity.

What you could do is cheat a little, record what you can but it might be dark and then use some video editing software to increase the brightness but I wouldn't say that the footage will be as pleasing as some of the images/videos you might see online.

I haven't tried myself with a video recording product but it could work but if you would like the best results, I would recommend a tripod and a camera which allows you to set a shutter speed of around 10-30 seconds and set an ISO of around 200-800 manually.

I am off to Sweden (northern region) in a few days so will take some stuff with me and have a go also. I have seen the lights there before but never had a tripod with me.

Looking on the United Kingdom site, both the 7 and 7K are still showing as available and ready to buy so I would say it is still current so I would say you are safe. From reading a few sites, I have not found anything to say it is being discontinued.

Focus On Imaging is next month where various manufacturers announce new products. Like any general member of the public, I am waiting to see what is on offer mainly in relation to lenses from various companies so there could be more to come.

As for the 7, it is a very capable camera so I wouldn't worry about what comes out next since it is still very modern.

It depends on which way you do it.

Im using using a PC on Windows 8. Bascially just done through My Computer and ensure you have Quicktime installed.

The file structure is quite simple.

Within the SD Card, the structure should go MP_ROOT > 100ANV01 (may change depending on amount of recordings) > Your videos

Within that, you will have the MP4 files and THM files. Quicktime files sadly do not have a thumbnail so you have to delete the files with short recording times, by time and date if you remember or preview them first. Personally I have a rough idea on time and date and just copy the ones I want and bin the rest.

Its entirely possible that a firmware update could fix this im not too sure if it is hardware related as you mentioned. I know the USB speeds on this product is quite fast so it may support data+charging at the same time but I think its best to keep an eye open on the support site for firmware updates. Its a new product still in its infancy so possible that new features come out over time.

Im tempted to buy an external charger and a few more batteries since I have been having a lot of fun with it so far.

Thanks for the update. I tried this just now, maybe worth trying.

Unplug the cam from the usb, switch off then remove the battery. Put it back in and without turning it on, plug it back in. See if the led lights up.

That has also worked for me in allowing it to charge. Its a simple unit so other than making sure the USB power option has been turned on, I cant think of what else to try (other than resorting to an external charger).

What I found is to make it charge on a PC is the following.

If you were using it as a USB device, unplug it and switch it off. Wait 10 seconds then plug it back in. I found it charges 100% of the time. The orange LED will light up and charge as normal.

I suspect when its powering down, it takes a few extra moments for it to cease the USB connection.

Since the cam does not have a screen the only way to do it is via a PC ie via My Computer. This way you can delete one clip at a time.

If you are to do it via Play Memories Home, you would need to import the footage over but you are right, no delete function since it is more of an import/upload tool. I would then go down the route of formatting the card providing you have it specifically for the Action Cam itself giving you as much space as possible for your next use.

Using this alongside the GoPro range, they function pretty much the same where in order to delete, you need the use of a computer which I would say is a decent trade off for the size.

I was concerned about lack of memory but found that even 30 mins worth of footage constant (dark footage) came in at 3gb so the compression is quite good. Memory is actually quite well managed.

Are you talking about the lines around the icons when using Metro? They appear to idicate what you are about to pick. I have tried on a HP laptop also and the outline also appears.

I did get it on all apps however some were more visible than other. Netflix and Skype had a strong outline and others were feint.

I would say its normal. Possibly more a feature in Windows geared up for touchschreen users.
